Elton John Auctions Iconic Wardrobe to Benefit AIDS Foundation

Legendary musician Elton John has announced an auction featuring hundreds of items from his iconic personal wardrobe to raise funds for his AIDS Foundation. The auction, dubbed the "Rocket Man Resale," will take place on eBay from June 27, lasting for ten days. Fans and collectors can bid on a variety of items starting at $26.60, with some pieces available for immediate purchase at fixed prices. All proceeds will support global efforts to eradicate AIDS and reduce associated stigma.

In a press release, Elton John expressed his long-standing tradition of donating wardrobe treasures to support his foundation. "Giving new life to the cherished items from my wardrobe has always been special to me. For decades I’ve donated my closet’s treasures to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” John shared. “This Pride Month, I’m excited to share my Atlanta treasure trove on eBay, hoping these items will inspire you to express your unique spirit and bring you as much joy as they’ve brought me.”

John emphasized the diverse range of items available, from high-end luxury pieces to more casual attire, ensuring there is something for everyone. “Whether you’re after high-end luxury or something more laid-back, there’s a perfect find for everyone. Even better, every dollar goes to supporting the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s work to end LGBTQ+ stigma,” he continued.

The auction includes bespoke Gucci jackets, Versace robes, customized Prada loafers, historic concert T-shirts, and baseball caps. Additionally, a select number of items from the closets of David Furnish, Donatella Versace, Brandi Carlile, Betsey Johnson, Robin Roberts, and Andy Cohen will be available, according to eBay's press release.

Charis Marquez, eBay's vice president of fashion, highlighted the significance of the auction, stating, “Elton John’s wardrobe is decades in the making — to own something worn by him is to own a piece of music and fashion history.” Marquez added, “Having a cultural icon selling his pre-loved fashion on eBay in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation is a real indicator of our ability to offer incredible access to luxury items that you just can’t find anywhere else.”

To mark the launch of the auction, John participated in an “eBay Live” event on June 27. For that day only, “Rocket Man Resale” items were available at an in-store location in New York City.

Why This Matters: This auction not only offers fans a chance to own a piece of fashion history but also supports a critical cause. The proceeds will aid in the global fight against AIDS and help reduce the stigma surrounding the disease, aligning with Elton John’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy.
