In a significant political development, a coalition government led by the Janamat Party has been agreed upon in Madhesh, Nepal. This coalition includes the CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), and Janamat Party, collectively supported by 107 provincial assembly members.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed his confidence in the formation of this government, emphasizing that Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of the CPN United Socialist Party, will remain a key player in the current power equation. Dahal made this statement while speaking to the media at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday morning.

Dahal remarked, "Madhavaji's behavior seemed to connect with the opposition and the ruling party from some time ago. When I spoke with me this morning, it was clear that Madhavaji is not and will not be out of the current equation."

This development has significant implications for the political scenario in Nepal, particularly in the Madhesh region. The formation of this coalition government could lead to changes in policy and governance, affecting the lives of millions of people in the region.

This coalition comes at a time when the Nepali Congress is making efforts to weaken the present government. Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, along with JSP Nepal President Upendra Yadav and LOSPA President Mahanth Thakur, held a meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss the political situation in Madhesh.

The meeting aimed to prevent the UML from forming a government in the region, as both sides require the support of the Ekakrit Samajwadi Party (ESP) led by Madhav Nepal for a majority government. The combined strength of the opposition parties in the 107-strong provincial assembly is 56 votes, surpassing the simple majority mark of 54.

Metmani Chaudhary of the Unified Socialist stated, "We agreed to foil attempts by the ruling parties [in Kathmandu] to oust the Madhesh government. We will extend our support to the Yadav-led government."

JSP chair Upendra Yadav echoed this sentiment, saying, "We are united and have come together to safeguard the current Madhesh government. We have received a positive response."

The federal government's budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25 has also addressed several demands from Koshi Province, including the construction of a ring-road in Biratnagar and the operation of a medical college. Prime Minister Prachanda highlighted that the budget prioritizes production, productivity, and employment.

The political situation in Madhesh continues to unfold, the newly formed coalition government will play a vital role in shaping the region's future. The support of 107 provincial assembly members marks a significant step in this direction.
