Paris 2024 Unveils Eiffel Tower-Inspired Podium Made from Recycled Plastic

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games have unveiled a podium design inspired by the Eiffel Tower, made entirely in France from 40 tonnes of recycled plastic. The design, which features a white facade with metallic lace patterns and gray steps, pays homage to the iconic metal arches of the Eiffel Tower.

The podiums were revealed at the games Organising Committee's Pulse headquarters in Saint-Denis. Key attendees included Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, Béatrice Dupuy, President and GM of P&G France and Benelux, and French Para triathlete Alexis Hanquinquant.

The podiums' design incorporates two primary colors: gray, referencing the zinc roofs of the Paris skyline, and a discreet off-white to focus attention on the athletes and their achievements. The metallic lace patterns on the facade further emphasize the connection to the Eiffel Tower.

A total of 68 podiums will be used during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These podiums are designed in modules, with three modules used to create shorter podiums for individual sports and 43 modules used to create longer podiums for team sports. A total of 685 modules were produced, each weighing an average of 45 kg.

Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, highlighted the significance of the design: "The podium's front part features motifs that reproduce a 'metallic lace' of the Eiffel Tower. The inner part of the three steps is gray 'in reference to the zinc of the roofs of Paris.'"

Laura Ims, Global Leader of P&G's Olympic and Paralympic Games Partnership, emphasized the importance of the podiums: *"P&G serves athletes every day, supporting what matters to them on their journey to achieve their personal best. For some, this moment happens while standing atop the ultimate symbol of performance – the Olympic and Paralympic Games podiums. "*

The podiums not only highlight the creative and sustainable approach of the Paris 2024 Games but also reinforce the commitment to environmental responsibility. After the competition, the podiums will have a second life, although their future use has not yet been announced.

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games are set to take place in France, marking the first time the Paralympic Games will be held in the country. The unveiling of these podiums underscores the Games' dedication to innovation, heritage, and sustainability.
