In Umm Al-Khair, Israeli settlers attacked residents, injuring six, while Israeli forces did not intervene.

Palestinian activist Alaa Hathaleen reported that Israeli settlers attacked his family at their home in the village of Umm Al-Khair, south of Hebron. When Israeli forces arrived, they protected the settlers instead of detaining them and assaulted Hathaleen and his family again.

On Monday, Israeli settlers raided Umm Al-Khair, a small Palestinian village in the south of the occupied West Bank, leaving six people hospitalized while Israeli security forces stood by without intervening. This latest attack follows two earlier assaults and a major demolition of homes by Israeli authorities in the past week.

Why This Matters: Residents of the village said settlers from a nearby outpost, known as Roots Farm, fired tear gas canisters at residents and used sticks to attack a man. Shimon Atiya, the leader of the Israeli outpost, allegedly fired two live rounds in the area, according to residents.

“There were so many women on the ground, lying on the earth, struggling to breathe,” local rights activist Basel Adra recounted. Videos posted on social media by residents showed about 40 Israeli border police and soldiers observing as settlers attacked the village.

As ambulances attempted to evacuate the wounded, soldiers stopped the vehicles, allowing settlers to peer inside. Soldiers briefly detained one Palestinian man in an ambulance before releasing him the same day.

Last week, Israeli military bulldozers demolished several homes in the village, leaving nearly a quarter of the 200-person community, including 31 children and a prominent Palestinian artist, homeless.
