Powell's Books to Host First Major Warehouse Sale in 20 Years on June 1-2

Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon, is set to host its first major warehouse sale in two decades on June 1-2. The event, taking place at the company's Northwest Portland warehouse, aims to clear out old inventory and make room for new stock.

During the two-day sale, customers can expect to find an impressive 40,000 discounted books. Hardcovers will be priced at $3, paperbacks at $2, and mass-market books at $1. The event will also feature food, drinks, and music, creating a lively atmosphere for book lovers.

CEO Patrick Bassett highlighted the importance of the sale for the bookstore's inventory management. 'We're going to clear the shelves of the old inventory and make room for hopefully a lot of really good inventory that our customers are looking for,' Bassett said.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at Powell's warehouse located at 2720 NW 29th Ave. Local vendors will add to the festive atmosphere, with Great Notion setting up a beer garden, Guilder Cafe offering coffee and pastries, and Nico's Ice Cream and Nacheaux providing sweet treats.

In addition to the book bargains, Northwest Marine Artworks will host an open studio with over 50 artists across the street from the warehouse. This collaboration aims to attract more visitors and create a lively community event.

The decision to hold this sale stems from the challenges faced during the pandemic. 'Over the course of the pandemic, we weren't cycling our inventory the way we had normally done it. Now we're back into getting a lot of good, new books and titles, and we need to make room for them,' Bassett explained.

This sale is a rare opportunity for book lovers to purchase a wide variety of books at significantly reduced prices and enjoy a festive event. Mark your calendars for June 1-2 and head to Powell's Books' Northwest Portland warehouse to take advantage of this extraordinary sale.
